Icon tut (For PSP 9)

Learn to make this          from this

First, I started off with THIS image of Switchfoot's drummer, Chad Butler. I resized and then cropped it to 100x100 pixels. I sharpened my base image twice and duplicated the base, setting it to screen at 57%.

Next, I duplicate screen layer and set it to soft light
at 57%:

I then made an Art Media layer. I choose a light blue
color and set it to soft light at 100%

I made another new art media layer, filled it with a dark blue color
and set it to exclusion at 100% and duplicated it once.

I then duplicate the base and dragged it to the top, setting it to soft light at 100% opacity.

Merge all layers

Next we are going to use some curves.
(Adjust > Brightness and contrast > curves)
We are just going to be using Red and RBG.

RED: (3 clicks)
Input:220
Output: 232

Input: 130
Output: 138

Input: 48
Output: 30

RBG: (4 clicks)
Input: 226
Output: 226

Input: 163
Output: 163

Input: 86
Output: 92

Input: 42
Output: 91

I got this:

Next, paste this gradient (By ??) () as a new layer. Set it to screen at 100%
I erased the gradient off right side of the icon, the black area and his face.

Then I pasted this gradient (once again, I don't know who it's by) () and set it to screen at 100%. I erased it from black area of the icon.

I mirrored the gradient, pasted it on as a new layer and set it to screen at 58% opacity.
I erased it from his face and erased the bright spot from the upper right hand corner as well.

Next I added text. I used Garamond (Size 5 & Bold to write "Chad" and then added some tiny text)

Next, I pasted THIS gradient as a new layer, dragged it over to the right side of the icon and set it to screen at 64%:

I then duplicated that layer and set it to Soft Light at 36% and got this:

And we are done!! I would like to see what other people can make with this.
Both comments and constructive criticism are appreciated.

That was excellent, thank you very much. I loved it. Not a bad tut. for future references, it would help to say what number the color is that you use for a solid layer. or show a sample of it. :)

Great job.

I made this off of your tutorial with a little tweaking.
